What is the best cheese to use for fondue?

It's no surprise that cheese is one of the most important ingredients when making fondue. The right type of cheese can make all the difference, elevating your fondue from just okay to melt-in-your-mouth delicious! So, what is the best cheese for fondue?

First, let's start with the basics. Fondue is traditionally made with a blend of two or more types of cheeses, such as Gruyère and Emmental. Gruyère, a Swiss cow's milk cheese, has a nutty flavor and creamy texture that melts easily in fondue. Emmental, another Swiss cow's milk cheese strongly resembling Gruyère, has an even stronger nutty and slightly sweet flavor.
